Mac OS X’s Graphite appearance setting is not always free of Aqua Blue. By default Mac OS X ships with the appearance setting of Blue for the overall look of buttons, menus and windows. This configuration presents the user with Mac OS X’s traditional Aqua Blue GUI elements, and signature traffic light colored window controls. Graphite, on the other hand softly mutes Mac OS X’s user interface with cool grey hues that some users find less distracting. The problem is that many applications do not depict all of their GUI elements in accordance to the current Appearance setting, and instead adhere only to the default Aqua Blue for proprietary controls.
