As far back as I can remember glass has never been a prominent building material on portable notebook computers. Sure the old luggables of the 1980’s had their built-in 4" glass CRT displays, but that was a necessity because no alternative display technology existed at the time. Glass construction on portable computers could be considered less desirable when compared to cheaper polycarbonate plastics. Glass is fragile and heavier than plastic. Two qualities seen as unappealing to most mobile computer users. Still despite the odds Apple decided to make glass construction a main selling point on their new MacBooks. The luxurious design speaks for itself.
