Since adopting Mac OS X in 2001 the built-in Address Book application has never let me down, never lost my data, never corrupted my contacts. Each new release has always brought expanded capabilities and conveniences, and never the reliability issues seen in other contact management solutions. Starting this week the introduction of Microsoft’s LDAP services tarnished my once spotless Address Book with the gloom of persistent data loss. Before my eyes I found myself losing recent entries and even entire contacts. Ironically a export through Microsoft Entourage 2008 was able to save my little brown Address Book from complete data destruction.
