Last week, after much research, I purchased my very first digital SLR camera the Nikon D40. I choose the Nikon brand over the competition due to the availability of quality universally compatible lenses, and my past experience with their ruggedly constructed FM series 35mm film camera. I selected the D40 over the Canon Rebel due to several factors with the most important being its compact size, generous battery life, sturdy build, and affordable price. I purchased the D40 over the revised D40x and D60 due to its more affordable $499 price tag, faster flash sync, greater low-light sensitivity, and this recommendation by pro photographer Ken Rockwell.
