Whenever I use my Newton MessagePad in public I usually get some sort of curious stares from the immediate audience. I believe this reaction is caused by the Newton’s intriguing presentation of usable historic technology. My display of perceived obsolescence is only strengthened when I reveal the Newton’s accompanying external green keyboard which is demonstrated to require a wire for its normal operation. The usual awkward expression of onlookers is only absent on the faces of individuals who are versed in the history of early Apple products. These rare few are always impressed to see an operating, and fully-functional Apple Newton.
