Last night I got my first real taste of OpenEinstein, a Newton OS emulator that runs natively on Mac OS X, as well as several other platforms. I had originally heard about the project when it was first announced during the Worldwide Newton Conference in 2004, but thought little of it as I was unable to use it without a authentic Newton OS 2.1 ROM image. For almost a year now I have had access to an appropriate ROM image courtesy of my own Newton MessagePad 2100, but it wasn’t until last night with a little help from NCX that I was finally able to wed my Newton ROM image with Einstein and begin Newting around on my very own Mac. The results have been spectacular!
