I have opened my Apple TV in order to install Mac OS X directly onto its internal hard drive. I did this because my previous attempts to install Mac OS X while booted from a external USB hard drive failed. I was not able to get a stable operating system installed even when I tried copying over a pristine image of Mac OS X with the modified mach_kernel, and boot.efi, or when I tried installing directly from a USB DVD-ROM drive. I know I have voided my warranty and tarnished the purity of my Apple TV by exposing its internals, but I don’t care. Mac OS X is running great on my Apple TV, and much faster now that it is being booted from its internal drive.
